Elemis Pro Radiance Illuminating Flash Balm

I had such high hopes when I got this Elemis Pro Radiance Illuminating Flash Balm as a magazine freebie late last year.  I normally read a good few reviews before I try any new products, but I'd heard good things in general about Elemis that I thought this would do great things for my skin.  Sadly I was very disappointed.

I generally love a good radiance boosting product, and this one promised to be a great multi-tasker, able to lightly moisturise, give radiant skin and act as a primer for makeup.  What could go wrong?  Well a lot as it turns out.

The Packaging
I know this isn't the full size product so it can't expect it to have the best packaging but still I found this little tube a bit 'meh'.  It's not offensive in any way, being simple white with black text and a silver lid, but I just wasn't blown away.

The Formula
The Elemis Pro Radiance Illuminating Flash Balm was a lot thinner than I expected, a very light lotion that felt quite weightless on the skin.  I loved the citrus-y scent, but didn't really get a lot of moisturisation from it, thankfully I'd used my usual daily moisturiser before applying it so didn't really have a problem.

The Result
From the offset I didn't notice a massive difference in the radiance of my skin after putting this balm on, I perhaps had a little bit of glow/shine on my forehead and nose, but nothing to really write home about.  Applying my foundation over the top of this almost completely eradicated any effect I did see, so I wasn't particularly impressed by that.  My foundation didn't feel any different in the way it went onto my skin either, but after a few hours wear, I felt like everything was looking a bit cakey, like I just had too much product on my face.

I was pretty pleased to get home and wash this stuff off, but was rather dismayed to see I had started breaking out on my forehead and cheeks.  I was willing to give the balm another try so used it once more, but got the exact same results.  Obviously something in this product just doesn't react well with my skin (I'm guessing the mineral oil) and as it doesn't do much for me in terms of radiance either, I'm pretty happy to consign this one to the bin!

Have you tried much from Elemis before?  What are the most disappointing products you have used?

  1. That's so strange, I absolutely LOVE this product, and find it so moisturising. It evens my skin out beautifully and I can use it as a primer. It just goes to show that products behave totally differently on different people, and just because one person loves/hates something, it doesn't mean you will too. x

    1. It is very strange isn't it? Lots of people on Twitter said they got on with it really well too - perhaps just my skin.

    1. I didn't get on with it but I've heard other people have - could still be worth getting a sample :)
