Beauty Haul - Skincare, Hair & Makeup

Part two of my beauty haul, this time skincare, hair & makeup.  I'm really loving testing all of these new products.

Real Techniques Powder Brush, The Body Shop Coconut Oil Hair Shine

Real Techniques Powder Brush - I already own (and love) the Real Techniques Core Collection so I didn't hesitate to buy this brush.  It's really generously sized and like all of the like my other brushes from this range is lovely and soft and does it's job perfectly.

The Body Shop Coconut Oil Hair Shine - I like trying a range of oils to keep my curly hair shiny and nourished.  Much more testing and playing needed with this one.

Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser, Caudalie Beauty Elixir, Origins A Perfect World Moisturizer, Lush Lemony Flutter Cuticle Butter

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser - this is an absolute holy grail product for me, it's really gentle but gets off every little scrap of makeup off.  I love it!

Caudalie Beauty Elixir - I'm honestly not sure what to make of this yet.  I've been carrying it around in my makeup bag and giving myself a quick spritz when I feel like I need a bit of freshness, but I'm not really noticing any discernable results (although it does smell nice).  There must be a reason everyone is raving about it though, so I'll persist in using it for a little while longer.

Origins A Perfect World Moisturizer - I used to use this moisturizer a few years ago and recently rediscovered it.  I'm glad i did because it not only smells divine, but also feels like it's really looking after my skin.  It might be a bit on the heavy side when the weather starts heating up though.

Lush Lemony Flutter Cuticle Butter - I love, love, love this stuff.  It has a scent like sherbert lemons and is an absolute must for dry cuticles.  I like to rub a little bit into my elbows and knees too to keep them nice and soft.

Sleek Ultra Matts V2 Palette, Blush by 3 Palette in Lace

Sleek Ultra Matts V2 Palette - most days when I'm at work I tend to go for a light wash of eyeshadow like Mac Naked Lunch or Bobbi Brown Navajo, but on weekends I like something with a bit more colour.  That's what makes this palette from Sleek perfect for me; I'm particularly in love with the teal shade called Orbit and the dark green named Fern.  I can't wait to try the rest!

Sleek Blush by 3 Palette (Lace) - My local Superdrug never seemed to have this palette in stock, so I was so pleased when I spotted it in a drawer under the display when I was asking about something else.  I haven't tried all of the colours in this palette properly yet but as is almost always the case with Sleek, the pigmentation of these blushes is sooo good.  I'm beyond pleased I found it.

It's plain to see I've got lots of lovely new goodies to be playing with, I'm really looking forward to trying them all over the next few weeks and will probably be posting some proper review of them soon.

Beauty Haul - Foundations & Nails

Sometimes nothing makes me happier than treating myself to some beauty products, when I'm feeling in a bit of a funk it can really lift my spirits.  I'm not the type of person who'll do one big spend (I'd feel too guilty for that) but all of the little bits and pieces I've bought recently have added up into something that could be considered haul-worthy!  Here's the first part of my haul...

Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation - first up in my new obsession with looking for the perfect base.  Everyone I know who's tried this foundation has raved about it so I thought I'd give it a go.  This isn't the perfect shade for me but seems to work well teamed with a little bit of my next purchase...

Illamasqua Powder Foundation - you'd think that teaming a liquid and powder foundation would look far too heavy and cakey but a little of this layered over the Skin Base foundation gives me great medium coverage but still looks like my skin.

Bourjois 1, 2, 3 Perfect Foundation -  this is the first 'drug store' foundation I've bought in quite a few years; I haven't tried it out yet properly but I've heard good things about this brand in general so I'm hopeful.

Revlon PhotoReady Perfecting Primer - I've tried this with a few different foundations and so far I can really take it or leave it; I haven't used a lot of primers though so maybe it's something to do with the way I'm using it.

Collection 2000 Hot Looks Nail Polish in Bongo Beat - loving colour change polishes at the moment, and this one by Collection 2000 is no exception.  It's green in some lights and blue in others, and it lasts pretty well with a good base coat and topcoat.

Collection 2000 Hot Looks Nail Polish in BMX Bandit - this shade is so pretty I can't get enough of it.

Superdrug 3 in 1 Base Coat, Ridge Filler & Growth Enhancer - I always like to try out different base coats, especially ones that are combined with a treatment of some sort.  This particular base is fairly good and helps my polish last, it's made it into my regular use pile anyway,

Topshop Nails in Gone Fishing - this colour seems to be a pretty good dupe for Essie's Mint Candy Apple so I couldn't help myself with this one!

The next part of my haul, featuring skincare, hair and makeup purchases will be in my next post...

Exercise and Diet - a new plan

It's been a while since I've written anything about the exercise and diet plan I've been doing, so I think I'm well overdue for an update.

Before the house-sitting debacle I'd actually been doing pretty well with the exercise plan.  I'd been going to the gym regularly and my fitness definitely improved.  Staying at my mam's and having my wisdom tooth infection meant a bit less activity though, and while I've been recovering I've just let myself chill on both the diet and exercise front.

I'm feeling far better now though, so this week I've thrown myself back into it.  I booked in at the gym to get my exercise plan re-assessed, and last night I went in for my first full session.  I'm doing more advanced cardio, using the treadmill and cross trainer, and for toning doing much more work with free-weights and the stability ball.  I can safely say that this is going to work for me again; i woke up this morning aching in some new and interesting places at the very least!

While I've definitely been committed to the exercise side of things, I hadn't been doing anywhere near as well with the diet.  I can't blame it on one thing in particular, just the combination of the crappy weather, being quite busy, and maybe lacking a bit of willpower have kept me from being quite so angelic with my food choices.  No more of that though, on Monday night I joined Weight Watchers.

I did Weight Watchers a few years ago (that time round I lost a stone and a half!) so I know it can work for me if I put the effort into it.  So far I've been doing well, using my daily, and part of my weekly, Pro Points allowance, and tracking everything in the new and improved journal.

I've got my first weigh-in this Monday night anyway, so I'll soon see if the effort I've put in bears fruit!

Clothes and Accessories Haul

Soooo, since I'm on a bit of a mission to get healthier and lose weight at the moment I really shouldn't be buying any new clothes.  I've relaxed the rules a few times though, especially when I've seen things where I know I'll be gutted if I don't have them.  I've bought things in a smaller size than I am now in the hopes that I'll be extra motivated to fit into them before the summer is out; fingers crossed that particular risk pays off...

Skull Vest - TK Maxx
I fell in love with this the moment I saw it; black, with a Union Jack skull and it's shiny (it says 'Rock and Roll' under the skull too)!  This one is me all the way :-)

Open Knit Jumper - Dorothy Perkins
This is such a lovely soft jumper I just couldn't resist.  It's already kind of baggy on me so I know I'll love it even more when I'm a couple of sizes smaller and it's even baggier.

Swallow T-shirt - New Look
I love the print on this t-shirt, and the rolled up sleeves; it feels so light and summery, I can't wait to wear it in the warmer months with some cute shorts.

Bright Blue Jeans - New Look
What can I say about these really?  You just have to, don't you? :-)

Black Stone Ring - Topman
The first of my jewellery purchases from Topman.  They have such cool stuff, and everything I bought was in the sale at less than £3.  This ring is huge but looks pretty good on my thumb layered up with other pieces.

Fake Ear Plugs - Topman
So I have a favourite word, and that word is... EPIC!  Couldn't resist when i saw these :)

Clock Pendant - Topman
I'm not one for wearing watches so this is pretty good for me.  It's nice and long and looks great with a plain t-shirt.  I actually end up wearing this at work most of the time.

Spike Necklaces - Topman
£3 for these!! I was amazed.  I really want to wear them every day but I don't think I could get away with spikes in my job :)

Aaand that's it for now.  I'm really happy with my recent purchases and I can't wait to start wearing the clothes soon.

I think I mentioned that I'd made a few skincare and makeup purchases recently too, so I'll be sure to post about those soon.

Ooopsie...

It's been so long since I've posted...  I'm blaming my mam; she had to go over to Spain to do some work at her apartment, and who gets left to look after her house and cat over here?  You guessed it, I do!

Now I wouldn't be bothered normally, but her house is a technology and WIFI free zone, so I was practically stuck in the dark ages!  And if that wasn't bad enough, I ended up getting an infection around my wisdom tooth, so without my fiance and my own cats to snuggle with I was feeling pretty miserable.

A couple of good things have come out of this though.  Firstly, my fiance and kitties missed me so much that they have been super attentive since I've been back, and secondly, I've collected quite a few little bits and pieces that I'm looking forward to writing about, including a mini clothes and accessories haul, and a few little beauty things too.  So watch this space...
